Build a payment platform — complex payment flows with Stripe at the core.

Stripe handles payments. But the payment flow — how users initiate, authorize, track, and reconcile payments — is what you build. Complex payment scenarios require custom platform logic around Stripe's API.

The problem
Founder or operator who needs a custom payment platform for complex payment flows — marketplace, escrow, multi-party, subscription, or usage-based — not a standard checkout page

Standard payment integration is a Stripe checkout page. A payment platform is the custom logic around complex payment flows.

Complex payment scenarios:

Marketplace: Buyer pays platform. Platform holds in escrow. Platform splits payment between seller (minus take rate) and itself. Requires Stripe Connect with separate accounts per seller.

Usage-based billing: Customer is billed monthly based on consumption. Requires Stripe Metered Billing with usage reporting and proration for mid-period changes.

Net terms: B2B customers pay on 30/60/90 day terms. Invoice issued, payment collected later. Requires invoice management, payment reminders, and late payment handling.

Multi-currency: International customers pay in their local currency. Currency conversion, local payment methods, and tax handling by jurisdiction.

Subscription with metered overages: Base subscription + per-usage charges above the base limit. Requires combining Stripe Billing products.

Why Fixed-Price Matters Here

Payment platforms have defined payment flow logic. Fixed-price from the spec.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Yes for US and most international markets. Adyen for enterprise-scale and specific local payment methods. Paddle for software businesses who want to outsource tax compliance (Paddle is the Merchant of Record). The choice is made in the spec.

Stripe supports ACH Direct Debit (bank pull) and ACH Credit Transfer. ACH is lower cost (0.8%, capped at $5) than card (2.9%). Bank verification flow adds friction — used for subscription or large B2B transactions where cost savings justify it.
