Boston has world-class engineering talent and world-class agency overhead to match.

Boston's tech ecosystem runs on deep domain expertise — healthtech, biotech, edtech, and fintech are the verticals where Boston companies consistently lead. The development agencies serving these sectors price for the enterprise procurement they're accustomed to. RCB Software brings senior technical execution to Boston-area founders at fixed prices that work for founder-stage budgets.

The problem
You're in Boston and need a web or mobile application built. The local development shops are priced for enterprise healthcare procurement. You need production-quality software at startup economics.

Boston's development market is shaped by the city's institutional anchors: Harvard, MIT, Mass General Hospital, Brigham and Women's, and the pharma/biotech cluster along Route 128. The agencies that serve these institutions are built for the procurement requirements of large institutions — extensive documentation, SOC 2 compliance, legal review, and procurement cycles measured in months. Their pricing reflects this.

The Boston startup ecosystem (which is substantial and growing, particularly in healthtech, climate tech, and robotics software) gets priced out of these agencies or gets the junior team that the agency assigns to sub-enterprise clients while the senior developers work on the MGH contract. The result is either over-expensive agency work or under-powered freelancer work — the market gap that fixed-price senior development fills.

The Boston domain expertise requirement is real and shouldn't be minimised: building a clinical trial management tool, an EMR integration application, or a patient outcomes tracking system requires understanding the workflows, the regulatory environment (HIPAA, HITECH, HL7 FHIR), and the specific systems that Boston's healthcare institutions use. A developer who hasn't built for this context will produce a technically correct application that misses critical domain requirements. The specification process is where this domain knowledge is captured.

What we build

A production application for Boston-based founders, built at fixed price with the domain-aware implementation quality that Boston's regulated and technical verticals require.

Healthtech and digital health applications

HIPAA-compliant patient portals, clinical trial data management, care coordination tools, and the patient-facing applications that Boston's healthcare ecosystem requires. HL7 FHIR integration for EHR connectivity.

Biotech and life sciences software

Laboratory information management systems, research data collection tools, regulatory submission support applications, and the data management tools for Boston's significant biotech cluster.

Edtech platforms

Boston's education sector (Harvard, MIT, Boston University, and dozens of smaller institutions) produces a steady stream of edtech startups. Learning management integrations, adaptive learning tools, and the student-facing applications that Boston's ed-tech founders build.

Fintech applications

Boston has a significant fintech cluster (Fidelity, State Street, and the startups building around them). Applications for wealth management, investment analysis, portfolio management, and the financial data infrastructure Boston fintechs require.

Deep tech software interfaces

Boston's robotics and hardware companies need software interfaces — control panels, monitoring dashboards, IoT data collection tools, and the user-facing applications that make deep tech products accessible.

Process

Three steps, every time.

The same repeatable engagement on every project. No surprises, no mystery, no billable ambiguity.

01Week 0

Brief & discovery.

We send you questions, then get on a call. Output: a written scope with every step, feature, and integration listed.

02Weeks 1–N

Build & ship.

Fixed schedule, weekly reviews. No scope creep unless you change the scope — and if you do, we reprice it transparently.

03Post-launch

Warranty & retainer.

30-day warranty on every launch. Most clients stay on a monthly retainer for ongoing features and maintenance.

Why fixed-price

Why Fixed-Price Matters Here

Boston enterprise clients have extensive experience with open-ended development contracts that overshoot budgets. Fixed scope, fixed price is the antidote.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Yes — HIPAA-compliant architecture is a standard scope addition for applications that handle protected health information. The implementation includes: encryption at rest (AES-256 for database and file storage), encryption in transit (HTTPS enforced), audit logging (all PHI access recorded), minimum necessary data access (role-based access control scoped to the minimum PHI each role requires), and business associate agreement (BAA) compliance for the infrastructure providers (Vercel, Neon, AWS).

HL7 FHIR integration for Epic, Cerner, or other FHIR-compliant EHRs is within scope. Epic's App Orchard certification requirements for production access are a scoped project component. Non-standard EHR integrations (older HL7 v2 or proprietary APIs) are evaluated case by case.

FDA 21 CFR Part 11 requirements for electronic records and signatures in clinical trials are a scoped project addition. The specific requirements (audit trails, electronic signatures, system validation documentation) are defined in the project spec.

Same as everywhere — location doesn't change the price. Web applications from $25k, mobile platforms from $45k, websites from $8k. Fixed-price.

Healthtech applications typically require 14–18 weeks due to the additional compliance architecture and audit logging components. Standard web applications run 8–14 weeks.
