If your target customer is managing this in Excel, there's a product opportunity.

Spreadsheet-managed workflows are one of the clearest signals of an underserved market. The customer knows what data they need to track and what outputs they need to produce — they've just been doing it manually. We build the application that replaces the spreadsheet and creates a product category.

The problem
Target customers managing a complex operational workflow in Excel or Google Sheets — a clear signal of a product opportunity that hasn't been captured yet

Spreadsheets are the most widely deployed operational software in the world. They're used to manage things they were never designed for: CRM, project management, inventory, billing, scheduling, compliance tracking. The signal that a product opportunity exists: when an industry vertical has standardized on a spreadsheet template for a specific operational workflow.

Why spreadsheets fail at operational workflows:

No data integrity. Anyone can type anything in any cell. The date column has text entries. The calculated column has overridden values. The formula breaks when someone inserts a row.

No collaboration model. Google Sheets has simultaneous editing, but it has no concept of ownership, approval workflows, or access control. The entire spreadsheet is visible to everyone with access.

No automation. The spreadsheet produces an output (a report, a calculation, a summary) but someone still has to email it to the right people, copy the data to another system, or create a document from it.

No history. The spreadsheet shows the current state. The audit trail of what changed, when, and by whom doesn't exist — or exists in a version history that's unusable in practice.

Doesn't scale. The spreadsheet was manageable with 100 rows. At 10,000 rows, it's slow, broken, and owned by the one person who knows how to fix it when it breaks.

What we build

Purpose-built application that replaces the spreadsheet workflow with a better user experience, data integrity, and collaborative features the spreadsheet couldn't provide

Data model from the spreadsheet

The spreadsheet's columns become the database schema. The sheet tabs become the data relationships. The hidden assumptions in the spreadsheet become explicit constraints in the data model.

Structured data entry

Form-based data entry replacing free-text cell input. Validation at the point of entry — no invalid data can be entered, not just highlighted after.

Calculated fields

The formulas the spreadsheet computes (totals, rates, statuses derived from other fields) replaced by database-layer calculations that are always accurate.

Collaboration and access control

Row-level and column-level access control. Approval workflows replacing the informal "I updated the sheet" communication.

Export to the expected format

If the spreadsheet's current output is a PDF report or an Excel file sent to an external party, the application generates the same format automatically.

Engagement

Process

Three steps, every time.

The same repeatable engagement on every project. No surprises, no mystery, no billable ambiguity.

01Week 0

Brief & discovery.

We send you questions, then get on a call. Output: a written scope with every step, feature, and integration listed.

02Weeks 1–N

Build & ship.

Fixed schedule, weekly reviews. No scope creep unless you change the scope — and if you do, we reprice it transparently.

03Post-launch

Warranty & retainer.

30-day warranty on every launch. Most clients stay on a monthly retainer for ongoing features and maintenance.

Why fixed-price

Why Fixed-Price Matters Here

Spreadsheet replacement scope is defined by the workflow: the columns, the calculations, the outputs, and the users. Fixed price after the spreadsheet review.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

The first action is always importing the existing data — no customer will switch to a new system that starts empty. CSV import is built into the application. The import handles data cleaning: date parsing, numeric validation, and deduplication.

The user experience is designed to match the mental model of the spreadsheet: the same columns, the same terminology, the same outputs — just faster, validated, and collaborative. The learning curve is intentionally minimal.

Focused spreadsheet replacement: from $22k. Complex multi-workflow operational application: from $40k. Fixed-price.
