Build a logistics platform — shipment management, carrier integration, and supply chain visibility.
Logistics platforms connect shippers, carriers, and customers. Freight booking, shipment tracking, proof of delivery, and billing — the operational backbone of moving goods efficiently.
Freight broker, 3PL, or logistics company that needs a custom platform for shipment management, carrier selection, and customer-facing tracking — not an off-the-shelf TMS that doesn't fit their workflow
Off-the-shelf TMS (Transportation Management Systems) are built for generic logistics workflows. Custom logistics platforms are built around specific carrier relationships, shipment types, and business rules.
Logistics platform components:
Shipment booking: Load details input (origin, destination, weight, dimensions, freight class). Carrier rating via carrier APIs or broker negotiated rates. Load tendering to selected carrier.
Carrier integration:
- LTL: XPO, ABF, Old Dominion, Estes — all have rating and booking APIs
- FTL: Broker DAT and Truckstop.com boards, direct carrier EDI
- Parcel: FedEx, UPS, USPS shipping APIs
- EDI 204 (tender) and EDI 214 (status update) for enterprise carrier communication
Shipment tracking: Carrier API polling for status updates. GPS tracking for own fleet via telematic APIs. ETA calculation. Customer-facing tracking portal with branded link.
Proof of delivery: Mobile app for driver POD capture. Photo documentation, signature capture, and GPS location at delivery. PDF BOL generation.

Any carrier with an API or EDI integration. LTL carriers (XPO, ABF, Old Dominion) have modern REST APIs. Parcel carriers (FedEx, UPS, USPS) have well-documented APIs. EDI (X12 204, 210, 214) for enterprise carrier relationships.
The driver mobile app (POD capture, stop navigation, check calls) is part of the scope for platforms that manage their own drivers. React Native for iOS and Android. If your platform uses asset-light carriers (no own drivers), the driver app is not needed.
